The Greene County Community Foundation awarded close to $150,000 in grants at their annual ceremony on Monday.

A total of 22 local projects received $148,817 from GCCF, which puts the non-profit organization over $1.5 million in charitable giving to projects since its inception in 2005. The largest grant went to the Greene County High School Music Department for $20,000 to restore a 1970s Steinway grand piano. Choir Director David Heupel said they’ve been saving proceeds from their annual Dessert Concerts to use for the project, but with the new auditorium to come in the next couple of years, he wanted to fast track fundraising to make sure it is completed.

GCCF President Tori Riley says the deliberation process is always exciting to take part in.

“And I wish other groups could come watch how we do it because our discussion is always very spirited, always a lot of viewpoints (are) expressed. But when it comes down to it we reach consensus, we take a vote, and we move on.” She goes on to say, “We’re very happy to fund such a nice variety of projects that will benefit people all over the county. We’re grateful to Grow Greene County for allowing us to continue doing what we’ve been doing since 2005.”
